Motion Studio

An in-house animation tool where Chippy flies a squiggle and paints a rainbow.

An internal studio for building the product’s animations, from the thank-you end cap to Chippy’s flights. It pairs with Squiggle Studio: draw a stroke, then let Chippy fly along it, painting the rainbow behind him. It later became Animatron, a standalone studio of its own.

How it flows.

Draw a squiggle in Squiggle Studio.
Choose “Fly Chippy on it”: Chippy follows the path, scaled to fit the stage, with the trail in the squiggle’s colours.
Tune the rainbow trail: leave the whole trail, or comet mode, which lights only the last few seconds of travel.
Or add the squiggle as artwork, and keep composing in Motion Studio.

Shared rainbow maths

The band geometry lives in the runtime, so an exported animation draws exactly what the studio showed.

Safe upgrades

Older documents migrate with the new trail switched off, so nothing changes until someone asks it to.

From internal tool to product

The studio was extracted into Animatron, with standalone autosave and static image support.
